We’ve just uploaded our 2015 Showreel, featuring one of the worlds coolest extreme sports – snowboarding!

And we can tell you we’re pretty stoked with it! The footage is from Simon R of Melbourne, from his awesome extreme sport adventure trip – Heliboarding in Queenstown, New Zealand. A huge thanks to Simon for allowing us to use your footage!

From Three Hours of Raw Footage

We edited from three different sets of footage shot by Simon and two friends, around three hours of raw footage shot in lovely crisp full-screen HD at 30fps. SR wanted a ‘movie-style’ action sequence, and while he expected a ‘highlights’ reel of around 3-5 minutes, we were able to edit his footage into an awesome action-style movie around 25 minutes long, with a cool intro sequence and all the best ‘other’ bits crammed into a fast-paced end titles sequence.

We used as much original sound as we could, moving parts from less interesting footage, and we replaced a lot of sound, including almost all of the helicopter sound with sound-samples.

Then we created a full DVD soundtrack featuring SR’s choice of music – tracks by M83 and the Naked and Famous gave a nod to ‘Art of Flight’, and sidled up to cool songs from UNKLE, Chez N Trent, and even a little old skool Beastie Boys.

Our Showreel can’t use those tracks (illegal!), so we’ve made our own ‘cinematic’ version featuring music by Ty Unwin (you may recognize his work if you’re a fan of BBC TV documentaries). The tracks are ‘Mighty Mountain Range’ and ‘Blast Lab’.

The cheesy mid-section shows you what some of the raw video looked like BEFORE we got to it. The idea came from Simon’s original video; the mate who didn’t go heliboarding got a serve! We hope you’re still on speaking terms.

The equally cheesy bossa-nova track to this section is ‘One Beautiful Summer’ by A. Pomeranz and L. Michellini (ya gotta love a bit of kitch!).

We had a ball editing this one, thanks to Simon and his mates for their well thought-out filming. They shot everything – the helicopter landing, getting in, views from the flyover, you name it. Great quality footage and a real pleasure to work on.

Thanks also to Jon I from ‘The Extra Mile’, Harris Mountain Heli Ski, and the helicopter pilot Sam I from Helicopter Line, for giving us their permission to include them in our reel – much appreciated!

We’re really looking forward to seeing more footage from Simon from a snowboarding trip to Japan. Thanks Simon, editing your footage was heaps of fun, it’s why we do this!

Excited!
